There are no ordinary moments (Goodbye 2007)

31 Dec

Shockingly, another year has come and gone, it was a really good year for me, when it comes down to the brass tacks. Good in all aspects of my life. In my last blog, I mentioned that I would be using a quote from the movie “Peaceful Warrior” as the title, and of course I am going to explain that a little bit further cause thats what I do. Thats the big message that I took from that movie, and subsequently the book as well, and I think it is a pretty good message to grab, and to hold on too, cause when it comes down to it, its true, I had lost sight of that over the years. Thankfully that movie was there to remind me what its all about.

MadMovieGuy’s Best Picture Awards

Here is my year end list of favorite movies, I wanna start off by saying, I am SURE that I have missed one or two, while I am dripping wet with awesomeness, I am not perfect, regaurless of what you all may tell yourself. Secondly, I have been kicking around movies on this list for a while, and I couldnt bring myself to do a typical “Top Ten” list, for two reasons, one being that nothing I ever do is typical, you should know that by now, the second reason is that I have a difficult time assigning a number to a movie, I honestly dont see the need for it, thats why I am doing my new “Best Pictures” list, its a little different than a top ten list, and it is in absolutely no order what so ever, I just dont think that there is any need for it, I love all these movies, many have found there way into my collection, many still will find there way there eventually. Also Some of these movies came out last year, but I am including them in this list, due to the fact that I have seen them for the first time in the last year, which is the only basis for making this list, that and being a completely awesome cinematic adventure, which all of the following movies are.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: The Family Stone

This right here, is one of my all time favorite christmas movies, from the opening title card, till the final scene, it is even more perfect than Love Actually, and its american, so hey lets see if we can drop a higher score than love actually, which I suppose is completely up to me, cause this is my blog, and I am the one clicking away at the keys, as my brothers shoot the shit and Goldeneye is on in the background, whats christmas with out James Bond ? Awnser….bullshit. The Family Stone doesnt have Bullshit, It only has awesome, and laughter, and racism, and sadness, and homophobia, and misunderstandings, and sibling rivalry, and everything that is perfectly disfunctional about the holidays, well crafted into a tight display of christmas joy and celebration of life clocking in well under two hours, but you feel like you have spent every year with this family and you feel for them, which should be the goal of making a well made holiday fare.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: Love Actually

I hate how much I adore this film, and I hate how overtly christmassy the movie is, cause I would watch it year round, it is just a 2 hour film filled with moment after moment of holiday perfection, and Iconic romantic moments, its a borderline perfect christmas movie, I see nothing wrong with it in anyway, every charachter is spot on and bring a glow to their role, no matter how brief it is.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: The Holiday

This was a movie, I had seen a few months back, and thought I liked it, but I wasnt sure, cause it was the first thing I did after getting my wisdome teeth pulled and it was quite literally one of the most pain filled few hours of my life, however when the drugs wore off, a few months later, I had lingering memories popping up into my head, and I had to buy it, cause I wanted to watch it again this year around the holidays. So on saturday morning, after I went driiving around at 6 am, listening to Rod Stewarts timeless “maggie may” I decided to pop it in, maybe it was sunday, I really dont know, the last few days have been kind of a blur of movies, and wrappping shit, and holiday cheer.
