Better Know a Holiday Movie: The Family Stone

25 Dec

This right here, is one of my all time favorite christmas movies, from the opening title card, till the final scene, it is even more perfect than Love Actually, and its american, so hey lets see if we can drop a higher score than love actually, which I suppose is completely up to me, cause this is my blog, and I am the one clicking away at the keys, as my brothers shoot the shit and Goldeneye is on in the background, whats christmas with out James Bond ? Awnser….bullshit. The Family Stone doesnt have Bullshit, It only has awesome, and laughter, and racism, and sadness, and homophobia, and misunderstandings, and sibling rivalry, and everything that is perfectly disfunctional about the holidays, well crafted into a tight display of christmas joy and celebration of life clocking in well under two hours, but you feel like you have spent every year with this family and you feel for them, which should be the goal of making a well made holiday fare.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: Love Actually

I hate how much I adore this film, and I hate how overtly christmassy the movie is, cause I would watch it year round, it is just a 2 hour film filled with moment after moment of holiday perfection, and Iconic romantic moments, its a borderline perfect christmas movie, I see nothing wrong with it in anyway, every charachter is spot on and bring a glow to their role, no matter how brief it is.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: The Holiday

This was a movie, I had seen a few months back, and thought I liked it, but I wasnt sure, cause it was the first thing I did after getting my wisdome teeth pulled and it was quite literally one of the most pain filled few hours of my life, however when the drugs wore off, a few months later, I had lingering memories popping up into my head, and I had to buy it, cause I wanted to watch it again this year around the holidays. So on saturday morning, after I went driiving around at 6 am, listening to Rod Stewarts timeless “maggie may” I decided to pop it in, maybe it was sunday, I really dont know, the last few days have been kind of a blur of movies, and wrappping shit, and holiday cheer.

Im gonn akeep this one quick, cause I saw it a week ago, and I have three other movies to write about and then go bust out round two of “getting shit” at my moms house. Presents, yay! Anyhoo, I havent seen this movie in years, and ernest is a real national treasure, its a shame he had to die, luckily there are probably a dozen ernest movies you’ve still never seen yet, so you can still get new Ernest.

“Christmas Carols Used”
Good use here, Ernest the cabbie busting out christmas carols, good shit, honestly 10 points.

Better Know a Holiday Movie: It’s a Wonderful Life

This felt like a good follow up to both scrooged, and the family man, another movie about a dude, who gets a chance to see shit through a different window, and get to know exactly what impact he has had on his friends, family, and the town around him. Funny thing about this movie, is I cannot remember one instance where I have sat down and watch it in its completion, however, there isn’t a frame of the film that isnt completely familiar, its as if as a mega film fan, this movie is part of my DNA makeup. Its just there, I can call it up at any moment. I also came to a shocking realization, that yet again will rattle the foundations of modern day hollywood. The Cop and the Cabbie, had a spin off segment on a popular kids show, their names ? Bert and Ernie.
